Vegetarian Indian Food Showcase at Table by Rang Mahal Street Food Fiesta 2019
Who’s up for some of India’s best street food? In celebration of Singapore’s National Day and India’s Independence Day, Table Restaurant & Bar at Naumi Hotel, managed by Rang Mahal Restaurants, presents an India street food fiesta from 9 to 18 August 2019.
Vegetarians, rejoice! The menu features a line-up of 12 delectable vegetarian specialties from seven cities spanning Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata to Amritsar, Pune, Ahmedabad and Jaipur. Priced at S$12++ each, these dishes celebrate the variety of Indian street food; add fresh ingredients and a la minute cooking into the mix and one will understand why people in India take their street food seriously. Prepared from a plethora of roadside stalls and food carts, street food is more than just a snack; it is a convenient all-in-one-meal. Rang Mahal’s Corporate Chef Milind Sovani and his team of chefs have put together a menu of street food items hailing from Northern, Eastern and Western India.
Taking the spotlight is Ajmal Khan Road Kulcha Chole from Delhi streets which is served soft bread and well-spiced flavourful garbanzo beans. The Elco Pani Puri from Mumbai is another street food favourite – a fun DIY dish where you pour the refreshing mint water into fried balls and pop them into your mouth. Enjoy the burst of flavours!
Jaipur’s Pink City Raj Kachori – a large crispy puff overflowing with mixed lentils yoghurt and chutneys – looks deceivingly simple but ensuring that the crust remains crispy and whole with the fillings requires mastery limited to only a few cooks in India and Singapore.
Moving to the West is Mumbai’s Tad Deo Pav Bhajee and indisputably the most popular street food item from India’s largest city. Comprising pan-fried mashed vegetables tucked between two savoury buns toasted with India’s much-loved Amul butter, the Pav Bhajee is not only wholesome but also easily makes for a meal on its own.
To end on a sweet note, do not leave without trying the Temple Coconut Kulfi; a traditional Indian ice cream dessert usually made from caramelised milk and an assortment of nuts, fruits and spices. Specially for the street food fiesta, the culinary team has created a refreshing rendition prepared with fresh coconut, a revered offering in Hindu rituals, and perfect to cool off in Singapore’s hot weather.
The India street food fiesta is available from 9 to 18 August 2019 daily, from 12pm - 10.30pm. During this period, a condensed a la carte menu is also available for diners who wish to order non-vegetarian dishes.
